TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signed
Adding Sacha Kljestan isn’t the only major move Orlando made on Wednesday.
The Lions announced this afternoon that they signed forward Dom Dwyer to a new, three-year contract. Orlando acquired Dwyer from Sporting Kansas City on July 25 in exchange for up to $1.6 million in allocation money, an MLS record at the time. Further terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
He appeared in 12 games after joining Orlando, recording four goals and four assists for the club. Between Orlando and SKC, he recorded nine goals and five assists last year.
“We are happy to have reached an agreement that both Dom and the club can be proud of,” Orlando GM Niki Budalic said in a statement released by the club. “Bringing him here toward the end of the season was an ambitious move, and we are really pleased with how he adjusted and developed in the short months he had. Dom is a big part of this team and we are excited to see what he brings to the group this season and beyond.”
Selected by SKC in the first round of the 2012 SuperDraft, Dwyer has 61 goals and 13 assists in 140 career MLS regular season appearances. Last year broke his three-year streak of double digit goal tallies. Dwyer became a US citizen last year, and recorded two goals in four appearances with the US national team over the summer.
