Orlando City SC midfielder Cristian Higuita has been called to the Colombian Under-23 national team for a pair of upcoming friendlies against Honduras.
Higuita was one of 22 players named to the roster for the friendlies, which are set for next Wednesday and next Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The camp will convene on Monday. Orlando City forward Carlos Rivas was also called to the camp but had to pull out due to injury.
Higuita, 22, signed with Orlando last January and made 26 appearances, 25 of which were starts, in the 2015 regular season.
The Colombia U-23s and United States U-23s will meet next month in a two-legged playoff series for a spot in the Rio Olympics. The first leg will be played in Barranquilla, Colombia on March 25 and the US will host the decisive second leg at FC Dallas’ Toyota Stadium on March 29.
