If you've been paying attention to MLS over the last few weeks, you've probably heard of New York City FC's Jack Harrison by now.
The 19-year-old English rookie sensation has taken the league by storm, bagging two goals and two assists in his first five games, including one each to guide NYCFC to their first #NYDerby win in a man of the match performance on Sunday afternoon.
It's a bright beginning to the No. 1 SuperDraft pick's professional career, and while he has much more to prove, his sterling start in blue has at least one English columnist arguing that Harrison could be the breath of fresh air that nation's national team needs after a thoroughly underwhelming performance at Euro 2016.
The Telegraph's Bob Williams, a US-based columnist made the case on Monday afternoon, arguing that based on his successful start for NYCFC, "It is in the interest of Gareth Southgate, the England Under-21 coach, and other FA officials to start scouting him now: watch his MLS matches, or better still in person."
Harrison has drawn praise from both coaches and teammates alike, including David Villa and manager Patrick Vieira, who said of Harrison, "I still believe the best is still to come."
And if England are indeed interested in bringing Harrison into the Three Lions fold, it would behoove them to do so sooner, rather than later. Harrison said in a recent interview that while he'd "love to represent" his native country, he would also be open to playing for the United States, his adopted country, if the interest from England isn't there.
