TRANSFER TRACKER REPORT:Re-signings
New York City FC announced on Thursday they have signed defender Alexander Callens, goalkeeper Sean Johnson, and midfielder Alexander Ring to new long-term contracts. Specific terms of the deals were not released, but all three are expected to stay beyond the 2019 season.
The trio each joined NYCFC for the 2017 season. Callens, 26, has played 63 games in MLS regular season league play across two seasons, scoring three goals, while also playing in one MLS Cup Playoffs game last year. The Peruvian joined on a free transfer after playing in Spain, most recently for Numancia.
Johnson, 29, joined the team via trade after playing his first seven seasons as a professional for the Chicago Fire. The American has played 62 league games for NYCFC since arriving and started both of their playoff games last year.
Ring, 27, came to NYCFC from German club Kaiserslautern. The Finn has played in 57 regular season games for NYCFC, scoring two goals and four assists, and also started both of NYCFC's playoff games last season.
“All three are entering the prime years of their careers, so it’s fantastic to keep consistency and stability within the team. It’s exciting news for all of us to tie them down to long-term deals,” said NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna in a team statement.
