TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extended
NYCFC and fullback Anton Tinnerholm have agreed to a new multi-year contract, the club announced Thursday.
Tinnerholm, 28, joined NYCFC ahead of the 2018 season and has been a constant on the Cityzens backline, starting 56 of his side's 61 MLS matches since his debut. He's added five goals and 12 assists during that time.
“Extending my contract with NYCFC is the one thing I really wanted to do and it was a simple choice," Tinnerholm said in a club statement. "Since the very first game last season, I’ve felt New York is the place to be and NYCFC is the Club to be at. When you’re enjoying your life and career so much, there’s been no doubt for me that I wanted to re-sign here."
The Sweden international was the 2017 Allsvenskan Defender of the Year the season before leaving Malmo for NYCFC.
“We’re excited to extend Anton’s contract and keep him at NYCFC during the prime of his career," technical director Claudio Reyna added. "He’s been a fantastic addition to the team and his success on the field from day one speaks for itself. Anton continues to provide a strong presence in the locker room and his commitment to the Club off the field has been first class. With this contract extension, we feel we’re locking down one of the best right backs in the league for the next few years and it’s a great day for the Club.”
