Canada Soccer released the shortlists for their annual end-of-year player awards on Monday, and seven MLS players were included in the men's senior team shortlist.

Seven of the 12 nominees for the Men's Player of the Year award plied their trade in MLS in 2016. Vancouver Whitecaps defenders David Edgar and Marcel de Jong are included, as are Toronto FC duo Jonathan Osorio and Tosaint Ricketts. FC Dallas' Tesho Akindele, Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier, and Orlando City forward Cyle Larin round out the MLS contingent.

There is MLS representation in the youth ranks as well, as Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla, signed as a Montreal Impact Homegrown player for the 2017 season, is nominated for the Men's U-20 Player of the Year. And Vancouver Whitecaps wunderkind Alphonso Davies is nominated for the Men's U-17 Player of the Year award.

The final vote for the 2016 awards is now underway, with eligible coaches and media voting in the various categories. Winners will be announced during the month of December.
