Nicolas Benezet appears to have played his last game for Toronto FC.
The 28-year-old’s loan from French club Guingamp was up at the conclusion of the 2019 season and although Toronto FC confirmed they were in talks to return the winger in 2020, Benezet sent out a tweet Sunday that appeared to be a farewell to the club and its fans.
“If I not come back you know why and because of who … I wish you the best @TorontoFC for the next season,” he tweeted, while also thanking the fans for their support.
Benezet arrived in midseason and scored two goals in eight regular season appearances, including five starts.
Benezet’s biggest contribution came in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs with a bending 14th-minute equalizer in the Eastern Conference Final.
