TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Kaku’s long-rumored move to Liga MX may happen sooner rather than later, as the New York Red Bulls reportedly have an offer on the table for the creative midfielder from Club Tijuana.
According to Mexican outlet Periódico AM, Xolos are offering a $3 million transfer with an additional $500,000 in performance-based incentives, as well as a 20 percent sell-on clause for a future transfer. Argentine outlet TyC Sports previously reported interest from an unnamed Mexican club. Kristian Dyer was the first to name Tijuana as a possible destination.
The 25-year-old Paraguayan international was the subject of a much-publicized and failed transfer bid by Club America in 2019 when the sides couldn't come to terms over the asking price.
The Red Bulls, who acquired Kaku from Argentine side Huracan ahead of the 2018 season, exercised his 2021 contract option upon announcing their year-end roster moves in November.
Since arriving to MLS, Kaku has 13 goals and 25 assists in 72 games (63 starts), though the playmaker has shifted in and out of the lineup. After making the one-time FIFA switch from Argentina to Paraguay, Kaku has three goals in six international appearances.
