Luis Robles has been a mainstay in the New York Red Bulls goal since he became the full-time starter in 2013, and now he’s been crowned the league’s best.
Robles was named Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year on Thursday after starting all 34 of New York’s regular-season games and heading one of the league’s best defenses.

The 31-year-old University of Portland product beat out two worthy finalists in the Vancouver Whitecaps' David Ousted and D.C. United's Bill Hamid, last year's Goalkeeper of the Year. Robles enjoyed narrow margins over Ousted in each category, while Hamid won the vote of club personnel but did not enjoy the support of the media or the players.
Robles led the league with 18 wins and was one of four goalkeepers to play every minute of the season. He posted nine shutouts, tied for fifth in the league, and a goals against average of 1.26. He helped New York to an Eastern Conference-best 43 goals allowed and the league's best goal differential (+19).
Robles also saved some of his best work for last, winning Save of the Week honors three times in the final four weeks of the season. He won four SOTW awards in total.
As impressive as Robles was in shot-stopping, he also demonstrated a calming influence and leadership in anchoring a defense that featured a total of 10 players who were called to start at least five matches along the back line over the course of the regular season.
Through the semifinals of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, Robles has played every minute of the last 117 MLS regular season and playoff games for the Red Bulls, totaling 10,560 minutes. His streak of 106 consecutive regular-season starts is the third longest in MLS history, and he is the first player in MLS history to start 100 consecutive regular-season games for the same club.
