New York Red Bulls honor Bradley Wright-Phillips: The last to wear No. 99

Bradley Wright-Phillips is perhaps the greatest player in the 23-year history of the New York Red Bulls and on Sunday night after RBNY's 2-1 win over LAFC, the club honored the Englishman.

General manager Marc de Grandpre announced that the No. 99 will never be issued to another player once Wright-Phillips hangs up his boots, whenever he so chooses. The number will not be issued throughout the entire organization, from the Academy to the MLS team.

Wright-Phillips became the 11th player to reach 100 goals in MLS history on July 25 against D.C. United. He managed the feat in just 159 matches, by far the fastest player to ever hit 100 goals.

Wright-Phillips stands third among active MLS players, behind Chris Wondolowski (140) and Kei Kamara (106), who are second and seventh all-time, respectively.
