New York City FC's Jesus Medina voted Alcatel MLS Player of the Week

Jesus Medina POTW 20

After scoring in each of New York City FC’s home games last week, Jesus Medina was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 20.

The 21-year-old Paraguayan midfielder had a goal and an assist to lead NYCFC to a 3-0 win over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, before scoring another goal Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Columbus Crew SC.

In their first game of the week, Medina broke a scoreless deadlock in the 60th minute with a knuckler from outside the box. Just five minutes later, he assisted on Ronald Matarrita’s goal.

On Saturday, Medina gave NYCFC a late lead against Columbus, capitalizing on a Crew SC defensive mistake and Jonathan Lewis putting the ball on a platter for him right in front of the goal.

Medina, in his first MLS season, now has four goals and seven assists for NYCFC, who are undefeated at home with a 10-0-1 record. They get to enjoy some time off before taking a three-game winning streak into Orlando to face the Lions on Thursday, July 26 (8 pm ET | ESPN).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is chosen each week of the regular season by members of the North American Soccer Reporters. The organization includes print, television, radio and online journalists who cover domestic men's soccer in the United States and Canada.
