New TV show based on Portland Timbers defender Jorge Villafana coming to FOX

Jorge Villafana - Portland Timbers - head up

A Hollywood adaptation inspired by Portland Timbers left back Jorge Villafana is coming to FOX and will include former MLS and US international Robbie Rogers as an executive producer, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is called “Sueño” and is part of an expanding portfolio from producer Greg Berlanti — Rogers' husband — with its name translating into “to dream.” The name comes from the show that helped launch Villafaña's career as he came on the MLS radar through “Sueño MLS,” a reality show that earned home a tryout and eventual start with Chivas USA.

This new show will follow Villafana's journey as an aspiring Mexican-American player as he battles for a chance at the next level. Villafaña, now 31, has played in 178 MLS games across stops with Chivas USA and Portland. He’s also appeared 31 times for the US men’s national team.

Rogers, who’s been a producer on The CW’s “All American,” retired after the 2017 season. He played in 184 MLS games combined with the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew SC, winning MLS Cups with both clubs.
