The New England Revolution added an experienced former US youth international on Thursday, when they announced that they have signed 23-year-old free agent goalkeeper Cody Cropper.
Cropper will be added to New England’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
Prior to Thursday’s move, Cropper had spent his entire professional career in England. He began his career in the academy of Championship club Ipswich Town, moving to Premier League side Southampton in 2012 before spending last season with Championship outfit MK Dons.
Cropper made nine appearances with MK Dons last year before being released by the club this summer.
A Minnesota native, Cropper represented the US a total of 28 times on several youth levels, starting for the Americans at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup and appearing for the U-23s in the first leg of the 2016 Olympic qualifying playoff against Colombia in March. He’s also been to camp with the USMNT.
“Cody is a player whose development we’ve been tracking the past few years,” New England GM Michael Burns said in a statement released by the club. “He’s a promising young goalkeeper and we’re excited to bring him to New England.”
The Revs are currently in eighth-place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind D.C. United for the sixth and final playoff spot. They’ll host Columbus Crew SC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday (7:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
