Montreal Impact midfielder Victor Wanyama is helping fight coronavirus back home, with 200 sanitizing kits donated to families in the Nairobi, Kenya slum of Mathare.
Wanyama, who signed with Montreal on March 3 as a Designated Player, has taken this step in concert with the Kenya Red Cross, Gina Din Foundation and the Africa Yoga Project.
“During this fight against coronavirus, it’s important that we all as Kenyans do our part to help stop its spread,” Wanyama shared in another Twitter video. “Make sure you follow the guidelines sent out by the health officials, do wash your hands thoroughly, social distance yourself. If we all play our part, we’ll beat this.”
Wanyama, 28, is the captain of Kenya’s national team and has seven goals in 56 games for the Harambee Stars. Before joining Montreal, he spent eight seasons in the Premier League playing for Southampton and then Tottenham Hotspur.
As of publishing Saturday, Kenya had 38 reported cases of coronavirus and one death.
