TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan
The Montreal Impact have signed 21-year-old Nigerian forward Orji Okwonkwo on loan from Italian side Bologna FC 1909 for the 2019 season, the club announced Tuesday.
Okwonkwo has three goals in 27 Serie A appearances (four starts) with Bologna since joining from Nigerian outfit FC Abuja in 2016. He spent the second half of last season on loan in Serie B with Brescia, scoring once in 13 matches (four starts).
“I’m satisfied in welcoming another striker to the team,” Impact head coach Remi Garde said in a statement. “Orji Okwonkwo is a young player scouted by Bologna three years ago who will help reinforce the team offensively. He’s a strong and quick forward who has an interesting margin of progression. I would like to welcome him to the team.”
Okwonkwo has featured anywhere across the front line in his professional career thus far and scored 20 goals in 26 appearances in the Italian youth league.
In 2015, he was part of the Nigeria U17 team that won the U17 World Cup, where he played in five games and scored once.
