TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Montreal Impact have signed goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Friday. In a coinciding move, the club loaned goalkeeper James Pantemis to Canadian Premier League club Valour FC.
Sirois, 18, joined the Impact academy in 2015 and featured for the U-15, U-17 and U-19 sides over the years. He was invited to the Generation adidas International Elite Soccer Program in 2018 after an excellent season with the U-17 team.
“We are really happy to see a player from the academy sign his first professional contract,” sporting director Olivier Renard said in a statement. “Jonathan proved during training camp that the club can count on him. It’s well deserved with the progress he made, and it’s also the club’s will to trust academy players.”
Sirois is the club's third goalkeeper on the senior roster, alongside Evan Bush and Clement Diop after James Pantemis was loaned to Canadian Premier League club Valour FC for the 2020 season on Friday.
Bush has been the club's starter for the last five seasons, though Diop has gotten the nod in head coach Thierry Henry's first three matches in charge.
“It’s a great pride to sign for my club. It’s like a dream that comes true,” added Sirois. “The first step is done, now I need to keep progressing.”
