Didier Drogba won't be taking his tour de force to Italy this winter.
The Montreal Impact poured cold water on reports out of Europe that emerged over the weekend claiming that Drogba was considering an offseason loan to Serie A side Bologna, who are owned by Impact owner Joey Saputo. A story appeared on the Impact website Tuesday saying the two teams never discussed the possibility of a loan.
Drogba, who has been an absolute terror since joining MLS this summer with 12 goals in 13 combined regular season and Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoff matches, will lead the Impact into the second leg of their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup with Columbus Crew SC on Sunday (5 pm ET, ESPN).
The 37-year-old was key in Montreal’s Knockout Round win against rival Toronto FC last week, notching a goal in the Impact’s 3-0 home win. He then went the full 90 for Montreal in their 2-1 win at Stade Saputo against Crew SC in the first leg of their conference semifinals series last weekend.
