MLS product Alphonso Davies earns Bayern Munich contract extension through 2025

Alphonso Davies has impressed at Bayern Munich enough to sign a contract extension through 2025, the Bundesliga club announced Monday.


Davies, who signed a Homegrown Player deal with the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2016, was transferred to the German powerhouse side after the 2018 season. The deal would reportedly total as much as $22 million, the most ever received by an MLS club for an outgoing transfer until Miguel Almiron's move from Atlanta United to Newcastle United reset the record.


"Alphonso has developed very well at FC Bayern and has earned this contract extension with his impressive performances,” CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement. “We are happy that he will remain with FC Bayern in the long term. He delights our fans not only with the way he plays, but also with the way he is off the pitch."

Davies, 19, has featured in 35 matches with two goals and seven assists since joining Bayern. During his MLS career, Davies had eight goals and 12 assists in 65 matches.


Primarily a left back or left winger, Davies is considered one of Concacaf’s top players, and has earned 17 caps for Canada. His original deal with Bayern was set to last until 2023. 


“FC Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world, and for me it's a dream come true to play here,” Davies said. “I felt happy from day one. I want to win as many titles as possible with this club. The mentality of always wanting to win everything is in FC Bayern's DNA."
