Four different goalscorers found net for Toronto FC in a lopsided 4-0 preseason win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in Irvine, Calif.
The game featured two 60-minute halves, and the first allowed Toronto to flex their muscle. Venezuelan winger Erickson Gallardo opened the scoring in the 20th minute, only for Jozy Altidore to tally in the 46th minute and Jonathan Osorio to score in the 49th minute.
Carrying a 3-0 lead into the second half, the Reds added a fourth in the 67th minute via a first-time finish from Homegrown winger Jacob Shaffelburg.
The end result served as Colorado’s first defeat of the preseason, with their other two matches coming against a college program and USL Championship team. Meanwhile, it was Toronto’s first preseason match of 2020 and arrives nearly three months after they fell in the 2019 MLS Cup final to the Seattle Sounders.
Up next, the Rapids will face the New England Revolution on Feb. 12 at Dignity Health Sports Park. For TFC, a tilt with LAFC awaits on Feb. 12 at Banc of California Stadium.
