The Bundesliga is back, Bayern Munich picked up right where they left off, and FC Dallas academy product Chris Richards found the field to help close out an 8-0 demolition of FC Schalke 04.
With his team leading 7-0, Richards subbed on for Jerome Boateng in the 73rd minute and finished out the contest, with the team adding another goal while he was on the field.
Richards, 20, got his start with the FC Dallas academy in 2017 and was signed as a Homegrown player in 2018. Following a trial with Bayern Munich, he joined the powerhouse German side on a one-year loan and signed a permanent deal in 2019. Richards has made 30 appearances for Bayern Munich II, scoring four goals, with Friday marking his second senior team appearance.
There's only so much you can read into a substitute appearance in a game that was already 7-0, but Richards seeing the field at all for arguably the best team in world is notable.
His fellow MLS export at Bayern, Alphonso Davies, was in the 18 but he watched this one from the sideline as his teammates easily handled Schalke. Expect the dynamic former Vancouver Whitecaps star to feature heavily as the season progresses, considering his electric breakout campaign last season.
