The start of MLS preseason is here! Players for all 27 teams report today for a seven-day quarantine period, medical exams and testing ahead of full training beginning March 8 with the start of the 2021 MLS season set for April 17.
However, either on a voluntary basis or due to participation in the Concacaf Champions League or the Canadian Championship Final, a number of clubs have already reported ahead of the official March 1 start date.
Here's a look around the league at which teams' players are already back at the training facilities with regular updates expected throughout the day.
Atlanta United
Atlanta United's fifth season kicked off Feb. 24 with the players reporting for preseason ahead of their Concacaf Champions League participation.
Austin FC
Austin FC are slated to begin officially begin on March 8 at Fairmont Austin and St. Edward’s University in Austin. The sites will host the expansion team before permanently relocating in Spring 2021 to St. David’s Performance Center, their $45 million training facility in North Austin. But we got our first look at Austin's players training during voluntary workouts on Tuesday.
Chicago Fire FC
Chicago Fire FC players were put through their paces early as they reported for preseason on March 1.
FC Cincinnati
FC Cincinnati were all smiles on March 1 as they returned to the training ground. They're entering their second season under head coach Jaap Stam.
Colorado Rapids
The Rapids began their early preseason preparations on March 1, providing a framework ahead of head coach Robin Fraser's second year at the helm.
Columbus Crew SC
Concacaf Champions League participants Columbus announced in a club release that players were set to begin reporting for preseason on Feb. 24.
D.C. United
D.C. United began voluntary workouts on March 1 as they look to have a positive start under new head coach Hernan Losada.
Houston Dynamo FC
Houston players and coaches returned to action on March 1, continuing their progression under second-year head coach Tab Ramos.
LA Galaxy
Greg Vanney is faced with recharging the LA Galaxy, and the five-time MLS Cup champions are laying the groundwork in a possible return to championship levels.
Inter Miami CF
Phill Neville took charge of his first training session as Inter Miami head coach on Monday, March 1.
Minnesota United FC
Minnesota United head coach Adrian Heath was pleased with what he saw from his players when they reported for the start of preseason on March 1.
CF Montréal
Although they don't yet have a head coach following the departure of Thierry Henry, CF Montréal's players kicked off their preparations for the 2021 season on March 1.
New England Revolution
Revolution players were put through their paces on March 1, looking to build off their appearance in the 2020 Eastern Conference Final.
New York City FC
Ahead of departing for a preseason trip to Florida on March 8, NYCFC returned to the pitch on March 1.
New York Red Bulls
The Red Bulls are entering their first full season under head coach Gerhard Struber, making this preseason an especially important one. Early in the week, they got back to work.
Orlando City SC
Starting on March 1, Orlando City SC wasted no time in ramping up the intensity. They're entering their second season under head coach Oscar Pareja.
Philadelphia Union
Fresh off a first-ever Supporters' Shield and a first appearance in the Concacaf Champions League on deck, Philadelphia Union players arrived at Subaru Park bright and early March 1.
Portland Timbers
The Portland Timbers, ahead of competing in the Concacaf Champions League this year, reported for physicals Feb. 23. In a club-released video, Diego Valeri and Sebastian Blanco were among the players shown at their facility.
Real Salt Lake
RSL, under the watchful eye of head coach Freddy Juarez, began voluntary workouts at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman, Utah on March 1.
San Jose Earthquakes
As February flips to March, San Jose players are returning to their home market and preparing for the 2021 season.
Seattle Sounders FC
Last season's defeated MLS Cup finalists began their quest to go one better in 2021 on March 1.
Sporting Kansas City
Top of the Western Conference in 2020, Sporting Kansas City began preseason on March 1 with striker Alan Pulido looking sharp.
Toronto FC
The Reds have started their first training camp under new head coach Chris Armas, reporting for their first day back on February 17. Toronto will have the earliest start of any MLS team, as they're set to face Forge FC in the rescheduled Canadian Championship Final on a still-to-be-confirmed date this month.
