Some current and former MLSers got their goal on in the lower divisions this weekend, with FC Dallas Homegrown forward Coy Craft, former New England Revolution forward Sean Okoli and ex-Columbus Crew SC midfielder Ben Speas scoring wild goals in USL and NASL action.
Craft banged home a ridiculous finish while playing on loan for USL club Oklahoma City Energy, hitting a 30-yard half volley inside the far post from an absurd angle in OKC’s 2-2 draw against Saint Louis.
Craft’s strike was impressive, but Okoli may have one-upped him, nailing an athletic scissor kick in FC Cincinnati’s 2-1 win against the Charlotte Independence in the USL club’s inaugural home game.
Speas, who played with Crew SC from 2012-2015, scored an excellent goal for future MLS club Minnesota United, flicking a ball over a defender and slotting home a half volley to complete his brace in the Loons’ 2-0 NASL win against FC Edmonton.
Those were all great, but I'm not sure any of them beat Malik Johnson's solo effort for Toronto FC II on Saturday.
