Could another player from Monterrey be heading to Inter Miami CF? At the very least, outside back Miguel Layun hopes to follow in former teammate Rodolfo Pizarro’s footsteps in departing Liga MX for the MLS expansion club.

Layun outlined as much on Instagram recently, after Pizarro signed with Miami in February following drawn-out transfer rumors.

"I would like to play for Inter Miami because David Beckham is there,” Layun said. “I'm his fan and I would like to meet him and be able to share with him.”

Layun, 31, has earned 72 caps for Mexico’s national team and been with Monterrey since January 2019. He’s played in the Premier League for Watford, Primeira Liga for Porto and La Liga for Sevilla and Villareal.

While in Liga MX, Layun has already won Concacaf Champions League and Apertura titles with Monterrey. He’s also won Apertura and Clausura titles with Club America, where his career truly took off in 2010.

The draw of Beckham, owner and president of soccer operations in Miami, is often cited when players are linked to the club. Beckham's project in South Florida, now underway, included a seven-year waiting period.
