Four seasons ago, Michael Bradley chose MLS. Chose Toronto FC. And raising MLS Cup, this capstone trophy to the most accomplished team effort in league history was the reason.
"This has been the dream for four years," Bradley told ESPN's Taylor Twellman, amidst the celebratory excess of the trophy raise. "Since the day I got here. And for the last year, the dream has become an obsession.
"And for this group of guys to work every single day, having to remember last year, to get back here, to play that game, in this atmosphere, with that on the line, it's unbelievable."
As for the boobirds and naysayers that have dogged Bradley, especially since the US national team's World Cup qualifying miss?
"I don't have to say anything. I love to play, I love to compete. That's it from me."
Based on the grin he wore throughout the postgame interview, Bradley will sleep well tonight. "We'll see" if the MLS Cup joins him.
