Mexico wrapped up their CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship in dominant fashion, beating Honduras 2-0 on Tuesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium to finish perfect in their five games.
An own goal by Honduras’ Bryan Acosta opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, and then Mexico’s Víctor Guzmán put a bow on the victory with a 69th-minute strike. Houston Dynamo striker Erick “Cubo” Torres started up top and went the distance for Mexico, marking his second championship in the tournament after leading El Tri to the 2012 title.
Mexico, the Group B champions, beat Canada 2-0 in the semifinals Saturday to earn a trip to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. They finished the tournament with a +10 goal differential.
