After averaging a goal and two assists per game during a sensational June, New York City FC midfielder Maxi Moralez has been named June's MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS™ by members of the media.
Moralez finished June with three goals and six assists in three matches, helping his club to a 2-0-1 record in that stretch. Overall in 2019, the Argentine has six goals and 11 assists in MLS play, while helping NYCFC (7-2-8, 29 points) play to their fifth-place position in the Eastern Conference. His 11 assists are second in the league.
As part of every MLS Player of the Month award this season, EA SPORTS FIFA 19 will release a special FUT item to honor the winning player, this month recognizing Moralez for this tremendous June performance. NYCFC began the month assisting Heber's goal during a 2-2 draw at Columbus Crew SC on June 1. Five days later, he assisted Alexandru Mitrita and Heber again before scoring in the 90th minute of a 5-2 win over FC Cincinnati at Yankee Stadium. In NYCFC’s next match, Moralez then scored a goal and added two assists in a 5-2 victory on June 6 at Yankee Stadium.
After the Gold Cup break, Moralez kept flexing his playmaking prowess in a 4-2 home win over the Philadelphia Union on June 29. First he converted from the penalty spot, twice, before setting up Valentin Castellanos for goals in the 71st and 78th minutes.
NYCFC resumes their season on Sunday in the New York Derby against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena (6:30 pm ET | FS1, FOX Deportes, TSN1).
