Ahead of their inaugural MLS season, Austin FC are getting plenty of publicity thanks to the club's minority owner Matthew McConaughey.
McConaughey appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night to talk his recently published memoir Greenlights and an upcoming Super Bowl advertisement with Doritos, but the host carved out some time to talk soccer, and the sport's growing popularity.
"I think it will," the Oscar winner told Kimmel about soccer becoming one of the US' most popular sports. "World Cup's coming to America, so we're going to be hosting. The world's game is going to be on our front porch in 2026. That's going to be huge."
McConaughey also shared that his three kids are also excited for Austin to begin its MLS journey, but have a different idea of what the perks of an owner are.
"They don't give a damn about the fact that their dad now has an owners' suite," McConaughey said. "They want to be down on those front rows, on the pitch. ... They want to be on the field."
