After leading the Ecuadorian league in goals last year, new Minnesota United forward Luis Amarilla isn't lacking confidence at the moment. And he's ready to let the good times roll.
He's feeling so good, in fact, he promised Loons head coach Adrian Heath he'll score 25 goals this season.
The already high expectations have been lifted.
No word on the parameters of this promise, be it in MLS regular season or across all competitions. Fine-line jargon aside, that's a lot of goals. Only three players scored 25 goals in the regular season in 2019 (Carlos Vela, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Josef Martinez) while fourth place had a distant 17.
Minnesota's single-season leader in goals during their three years in MLS is Christian Ramirez's 14 in 2017. No Loons player has scored a career total of 25 MLS goals, with Darwin Quintero and Ramirez tied with 21 goals each.
Amarilla, 24, is only one of two natural center forwards on Minnesota's roster, alongside 2019 breakout goalscorer Mason Toye.
