Landon Donovan, Eric Wynalda settle for share of points in San Diego's USL debut

There were California-born MLS legends in both technical boxes on Saturday night when Landon Donovan's San Diego Loyal made their USL Championship debut against Eric Wynalda's Las Vegas Lights.

Junior Burgos scored a goal that may have made both former American World Cup stars jealous.

Burgos' laser beam off the underside of the crossbar opened the scoring for Wynalda's Lights on four minutes, before Charlie Adams (not the former Stoke City midfielder) leveled in 15th minute for hosts San Diego, .

Managed and co-founded by Donovan, Loyal drew a sellout crowd of 6,100 in their inaugural regular season match.

Wynalda is beginning his second full season in charge of the Lights after taking over in late 2018. The Lights finished 13th in the USL Championship in 2019, but were 10 points improved off their 15th-place season in 2018.
