LAFC's Brian Rodriguez called up to Uruguay, will face USMNT

Brian Rodriguez - Uruguay - U-20 World Cup

Oscar Tabarez has named his squad for upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States, and the squad includes an MLS player who will be a debutant for his country.

LAFC newcomer Brian Rodriguez, fresh off his MLS debut, gets the nod to the senior team for the first time after his big move abroad and a strong showing at the 2019 U-20 World Cup this summer.

Rodriguez, LAFC's newest young Designated Player, came off the bench to replace an injured Carlos Vela in Sunday's 3-3 draw against the LA Galaxy. Playing 29 minutes, he notched four shots, and took corner kicks in his MLS debut for the league leaders.

Uruguay will play two road friendlies in the September FIFA window, against Costa Rica in San Jose on Sept. 6 and against the US men's national team on Sept. 10 in St. Louis.

Seattle Sounders playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro was originally called up to Tabarez's 24-man roster, but was left off the revised roster announced on Wednesday.
