Adama Diomande is making all sorts of history in the infancy of his MLS career as the 28-year-old Norwegian forward became the first player in league history to score seven goals within his first five league games and he also became the first LAFC player to net a hat trick, which he accomplished in a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Diomande can add another accolade to his list as he was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 18.
He opened the scoring against the Union by forcing Auston Trusty into a turnover and receiving a pass from Latif Blessing. Diomande did the rest, cutting inside of Mark McKenzie and then to the outside before beating Andre Blake low inside the far post to put LAFC in front in the 25th minute.
Two minutes from halftime, Diomande had his brace with a tap-in from the edge of the six-yard box to cap a quick passing sequence from Blessing to Benny Feilhaber to Mark-Anthony Kaye to an unmarked Diomande in front of goal.
Diomande completed his historic hat trick in the 55th minute, slamming in a right-footed shot in at the far post after recovering a Blessing attempted shot.
LAFC return to action July 3 to face the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium (9 p.m. ET | TV & Streaming info), before hosting Orlando City SC on July 7 at Banc of California Stadium (4:30 p.m. ET | FOX — Full TV & Streaming info).
