The year of Carlos Vela continues in MLS.
The LAFC star scored three goals across two games, and as a result was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 25 of the 2019 MLS regular season.
Vela was the star in LAFC's 4-0 rout of the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, scoring the game's second goal from the penalty spot before scoring an audacious golazo just before halftime, a likely AT&T Goal of the Year candidate, with a quick give-and-go before dribbling through several San Jose defenders and essentially walking the ball into the goal.
On Sunday, Vela led the rally in El Trafico, setting up Latif Blessing's second goal of the night to cut LAFC's deficit to one goal against the LA Galaxy before the break, before scoring the equalizer early in the second half to ensure a 3-3 result for the Black & Gold.
Vela's Player of the Week honor is the fourth of the season for the Mexican star, who also leads the league in goals (27) and is tied for second in assists (15) while leading the runaway Supporters' Shield leaders.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
