LAFC have locked up a key piece of their potentially record-breaking season for the long term.
The club announced on Monday that they have acquired center back Eddie Segura on a permanent, multi-year deal. Segura initially joined the club on a six-month loan from Atletico Huila prior to the start of the 2019 season.
“Eddie has played a crucial role in the team’s success in the first half of the season,” said EVP & GM John Thorrington in a statement. “He has leadership and presence beyond his years. He is a fantastic example to any player with his focus and how he applies himself and seeks to improve each day. He is a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to his continued contributions for years to come.”
Segura is just one of three players on the roster to appear in every game across all competitions in 2019, including all 22 regular season contests, playing all but 105 minutes at center back. In his first season outside of his native Colombia, the 22-year-old has established himself in a backline that leads the league in goals against (23), goals against average (1.04), and has helped shut out six opponents.
