In a move that we can only assume will lead to a full, comprehensive understanding of the assorted plights of soccer journalists, Steven Gerrard and The Telegraph announced on Thursday that the LA Galaxy midfielder will begin writing a monthly column for the English newspaper.
The former England captain’s column will debut ahead this weekend’s Capital One Cup Final between Manchester City and Liverpool, where he made more than 700 appearances before moving to LA last summer. Further columns will appear every month during the remainder of the Premier League season and through this summer’s UEFA European Championships.
“I’m looking forward to being a columnist and trying to get across that side of the game the fans can’t see, and maybe offer a greater level of understanding of the demands, the pressures and the emotional highs and lows of trying to succeed at the highest level of modern football,” Gerrard said in The Telegraph. “What I can promise is I will bring to my column what I have always tried to do in every media interview as a player. To be honest and fair.”
Honest, fair and on time, we hope. Missing a deadline is grounds for a straight red, Stevie G.
