After signing with the LA Galaxy from LA Galaxy II two months ago, Jack McBean is on the move again.
The Galaxy announced on Friday that McBean has been loaned to Coventry City FC in England’s League One for the remainder of the 2016 MLS season.
McBean joins former Seattle Sounders midfielder Andy Rose at Coventry City as well as Atlanta United signing Chris McCann. The team's managing director is Chris Anderson, one of the authors of The Numbers Game: Why Everything You Know About Soccer is Wrong.
“Jack is a young and talented player that has continued to develop within our club,” said LA Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena. “We think this loan will put him in a position to help reach his potential while providing him with consistent playing time against strong competition.”
"
Jack is a young player with potential who is over here to develop and try to progress his career," Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray said in a statement on the
club's website
.
McBean, a Homegrown Player, signed with LA Galaxy on June 22 after an impressive start to his season with LA Galaxy II saw him score 12 goals in 14 games. McBean made two appearances in MLS and two US Open Cup appearances with the first team in 2016.
“We will continue to monitor Jack’s time on loan at Coventry City as he progresses both on and off the field,” said LA Galaxy vice president of soccer operations Pete Vagenas. “We are confident that this environment will allow him to grow as a player.”
McBean originally signed with the LA Galaxy in 2011 as a Homegrown Player. McBean has made 19 MLS appearances with two goals and two assists. At age 16, McBean became the youngest player in LA Galaxy history to play in a game, start a game and score a goal. In his first-ever appearance – a match on the road against Houston on Oct. 23, 2011 – McBean scored a goal while playing the entire match.
In 2015, McBean signed a USL contract with LA Galaxy II, where he excelled in two seasons with Los Dos. Last year, the LA Galaxy II MVP led an LA Galaxy II offensive attack that scored 39 goals during the regular season, with McBean contributing six goals and adding five assists. McBean also recorded an assist in USL postseason play, helping lead Los Dos to its first-ever USL Western Conference Championship and USL Championship appearance.
