The LA Galaxy have eight games left in the season to make sure they qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs and secure a good seed.
They’ll have to do so without one of their top offensive players.
On Tuesday, the Galaxy announced that forward Gyasi Zardes will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot — an injury he suffered during Saturday’s scoreless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Zardes, who also has to miss the US national team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers because of the injury, has six goals and five assists in 19 MLS appearances this season. Two of those goals and three of those assists were of the game-winning variety.
Over his career, the 24-year-old Homegrown has logged 32 goals and 15 assists.
The Galaxy, who currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference, return to action without him Saturday when they host Columbus Crew SC (10:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
Zardes could possibly be in line to return for the playoffs should the Galaxy get there.
