The LA Galaxy have lost the services of Romain Alessandrini for several months to come, as the club announced on Friday that the French winger has undergone knee surgery that will sideline him until September.
Alessandrini tore his meniscus in match action earlier this month and has undergone a procedure called a meniscus root repair, which typically requires a longer healing period than other meniscus operations but offers a more complete recovery of function in the joint.
Despite the projected length of his absence, LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese ruled out the possibility of putting Alessandrini on the Season-Ending Injury List, which would rule him out for the rest of 2019 but free up a roster spot for the Galaxy:
It's the latest injury setback for the influential Designated Player, who scored 24 goals and 21 assists in his first two MLS seasons but has been hampered by hamstring and other issues this year. In his stead, Emmanuel Boateng figures to see more playing time on the wing.
