In an offseason that’s seen the LA Galaxy lose a few key players, the club and its supporters will be happy to know that long-time forward Alan Gordon is returning for the 2016 campaign after signing a new deal.
Before the news became official, Galaxy mascot Cozmo couldn’t contain his excitement and indicated that Gordon would be re-signing:
Gordon has long been a valuable role player for the Galaxy, helping them win two titles (2005, 2014) and scoring 26 goals in three stints with the club. He is ninth in all-time scorers for LA.
The 34-year-old striker has a penchant for delivering in the clutch, as three of his five goals last season were game-winners. For his career, Gordon has scored 49 goals and added 27 assists in 223 MLS appearances.
“We’re very pleased, Alan’s had a great history with the Galaxy and plays an important role for us on and off the field,” said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena, to the club's website. “To have him back here again is important for our team.”
“Hopefully, he’ll continue to be productive. He’s generally used in a reserve capacity but we know when called upon that Alan will be a full-time player as well.”
The Long Beach (California) native has also represented the US national team twice as a result of the gritty work rate he's shown throughout his 11-year career.
