TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Victor Vazquez, the club announced Wednesday.
Vazquez, 34, is best known in MLS for his time with Toronto FC, where he worked under current Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney. The midfielder had 16 goals and 25 assists in two seasons with TFC from 2017-18, playing an integral role in the club's historic 2017 treble in which they won MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield and the Canadian Championship.
After leaving Toronto, Vazquez spent the last few years in Qatar and then in Belgium, with KAS Eupen. He had been without a club since October.
“Victor is a talented, experienced and accomplished player who is familiar with Greg and playing in Major League Soccer,” GM Dennis te Kloese said in a club statement. “He was a top, creative player in our league while with Toronto and he will bring a great deal of leadership to our club both on and off the field. We are thrilled to add Victor to our roster and look forward to him representing the LA Galaxy.”
A product of Barcelona's world-renowned academy, Vazquez made three appearances for the superclub before signing with Club Brugge in Belgium. He made 173 appearances for the club before heading to Mexico to sign with Cruz Azul.
Vazquez, an attacking midfielder, adds options for Vanney's attack, currently highlighted by the likes of Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Sebastian Lletget, Samuel Grandsir, Sacha Kljestan and more.
