TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy announced on Tuesday the signing of Aleksandar Katai, as the Serbian winger arrives via the use of Targeted Allocation Money after two seasons with Chicago Fire FC, who declined his 2020 contract option at the end of the season.
Katai, 28, has scored 18 goals and 12 assists in 62 career MLS appearances; he will occupy an International roster spot in LA.
“Aleksandar is a proven attacking threat who will be an important piece on our team,” said Galaxy general manager Dennis Te Kloese in a club release. “In addition to his success playing in Europe, he has shown his quality in Major League Soccer since he joined in 2018. We are excited to add Aleksandar to our roster and look forward to him representing the LA Galaxy.”
Katai joined the Fire on loan from Spanish side Alaves – where he scored three goals and four assists in 23 matches – in 2018 before joining the club permanently the following season.
He shined at Red Star Belgrade in his homeland from 2014-16, leading the Serbian SuperLiga in scoring with 21 goals during the 2015-16 season. Katai also wore the colors of FK Vojvodina and Olympiacos earlier in his career, and has nine career Serbia caps to date.
