Kaku is back.
The New York Red Bulls midfielder returned to action as a 68th-minute sub in a tough 2-1 loss to the Montreal Impact on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.
Kaku, who completed his three-match suspension for reckless misconduct following an incident in the April 14 match at Sporting Kansas City, came on in a match where Chris Armas' attacking core was seriously depleted. With forwards Bradley Wright-Phillips and Brian White out with injury, Red Bulls II standout Tom Barlow started the match after being signed earlier in the day, and the match finished with Derrick Etienne, Jr. in an uncustomary target striker role.
"Kaku is match fit. He's been training well and he's been with us all year," said head coach Chris Armas after the match. "...Nothing with Kaku has changed in terms of our commitment to him and what he means to the team."
Though Kaku did have the final kick of the match, he wasn't able to put much of a stamp on the proceedings, and during his time on the pitch, his Red Bulls gave up a penalty to Anthony Jackson-Hamel and a game-winning PK to Maxi Urruti.
