The 2020 MLS regular season has been a strong one for a number of American and Canadian players, and for Charlie Davies, no one has stood out more than the Seattle Sounders' Jordan Morris and the Philadelphia Union's Alejandro Bedoya.
"I think it's a no-brainer for Jordan Morris to have him be kind of this guy who I think has taken a step up in his game, his level, his approach, being able to influence in difference ways, his combination play," Davies said on Extratime. "It does help when you're playing with Raul Ruidiaz and Nico Lodeiro but I think his influence has made Seattle a better team."
Davies also spotlighted Bedoya, an untraditional pick for a Union side in the race for the Supporters' Shield.
"He's a player that really stands out to me that's not getting the credit anymore," Davies said. "He's an old-timer now. He's not a young buck. He's a grizzled vet, but his influence, it's really his mentality to set the tone and hold everybody accountable for the Philadelphia Union so that's another player that's not going to get a ton of credit this year but deserves it."
Additionally, Davies said Toronto FC's Ayo Akinola has enjoyed a strong season but he's "on the verge. I don't think he's there yet." He also noted that Orlando City's Chris Mueller is playing above expectations, but is "still not in that category of really being in a position to be a top domestic player."
