TRANSFER TRACKER: Re-signed
A pair of veteran defenders are returning to LAFC for the 2020 MLS season, as left back Jordan Harvey and center back Dejan Jakovic were both signed to new deals, the reigning Supporters’ Shield champions announced Tuesday.
“Jordan and Dejan have been consummate professionals since joining the Club and we’re pleased to have re-signed both players,” said general manager and EVP of soccer operations John Thorrington in a team release. “They provide an invaluable veteran presence in the locker room, and their level of experience and dedication have been crucial to the team’s success the past two years.”
Harvey, 35, joined the Black & Gold for their expansion season in 2018 and turned back the clock last campaign in recording one goal and five assists through 30 games (29 starts). Jakovic, 34, saw action in just three regular-season games last season after making 15 appearances in 2018.
They’ll join a familiar defensive corps at LAFC, with Diego Palacios and Mohamed El-Munir both in the fold at left back. As for center backs, Walker Zimmerman, Eddie Segura and Danilo Silva are other major pieces alongside Jakovic. Tristan Blackmon, who’s played primarily at right back, has also featured centrally.
LAFC begin their 2020 season Feb. 18 at Club Leon as they make their first Concacaf Champions League appearance, while their MLS slate begins March 1 at home against MLS newcomers Inter Miami CF. In 2019, they set a single-season record for points (72).
