The LA Galaxy went for a goalkeeping change in their 4-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes, giving new signing Jonathan Klinsmann the start in favor of usual first choice David Bingham on Wednesday. It marked Klinsmann's debut for a club he grew up supporting, and possibly the beginning of a battle for the number one spot in Los Angeles.
It was not necessarily a match worth remembering considering the scoreline and the Galaxy's recent defensive woes, but Klinsmann was still able to show his abilities against the Earthquakes. He made seven saves on the night, including a few impressive ones against an Earthquakes side that recorded 18 shots.
Klinsmann joined the Galaxy in August, ending a season long spell in Switzerland with St. Gallen. He was previously with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, but for both clubs made very few appearances. The goalkeeper, son of former German international and US men's national team coach Jurgen, is a California native and played for the University of California, Berkley before his stint in Europe, so the move to the Galaxy marked a homecoming for the goalkeeper.
