Jefferson Savarino returned from the Copa América and has not stopped running, with the Real Salt Lake attacker scoring two goals and assisting a third in Saturday's 4-0 demolition of the Philadelphia Union.
Those exploits earned Savarino MLS Player of the Week honors for Week 19 of the 2019 regular season.
Savarino started the scoring after taking down a ball over the top and hitting a terrific one-timer in the 23rd minute on Saturday. He then doubled the lead in the 71st minute by taking a feed well outside the box and unleashing an unstoppable one-hopper, before he set up Albert Rusnak's bomb in the 81st minute.
The Venezuelan is back from a stint at the Copa América where he turned heads and sparked rumored transfer interest from abroad. Savarino has five goals and two assists in 15 regular-season appearances to date this season for RSL.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
