International roundup: Gustav Svensson captains Sweden, two other MLSers see minutes

Gustav Svensson - Sweden - in challenge

With international play getting underway, four MLS players had the opportunity to feature in today’s action. The biggest moment of the day was clearly for Gustav Svensson (Seattle Sounders), while Erik Sorga (D.C. United) and Victor Wanyama (Montreal Impact) earned minutes in their respective matches.

Denmark 2, Sweden 0 (Friendly)

Seattle's Gustav Svensson was handed the captain's armband for the first-ever time in his international career for Sweden's friendly against neighbors Denmark.

The fairytale win wasn't to be, though, as Sweden fell 2-0 with Svensson going 76 minutes.

Italy 4, Estonia 0 (Friendly)

D.C. United’s Erik Sorga represented Estonia in their friendly against Italy. The forward subbed into the game in the 57th minute and twice set up teammates for shots, but weren’t able to find the back of the net.

Kenya 1, Comoros 1 (Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier)

Montreal Impact midfielder Victor Wanyama resumed his role as captain of the Harambee Stars as Kenya played to a 1-1 draw against Comoros. He played the full 90 minutes as they played to their third straight draw in the 2021 AFCON qualifying tournament.

Finland 2, France 0 (Friendly)

Montreal defender Jukka Raitala and Minnesota midfielder Robin Lod are both on the roster for Finland, who stunned world champions France with two first-half goals in a friendly on Wednesday. Lod was on the bench, but didn’t make an appearance, and Raitala wasn’t on the gameday roster.
