Several MLS players were involved in international action on Thursday, and one player reached a milestone in his international career.
FC Dallas attacker Fabian Castillo, receiving his second call-up to the Colombian national team in the past two months, made his competitive debut in Colombia's 2-0 win over Peru in South American World Cup qualifying. Castillo entered the game in second-half injury time, but he made an impact in a short time, initiating the play for the insurance tally in the match.
Elsewhere, Columbus Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram started and played the first half in Iraq's 1-1 AFC World Cup qualifier against Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Meram came off at halftime, and Iraq converted a penalty in the 90th minute to grab a point.
In Euro 2016 qualification, Sporting Kansas City forward Krisztian Nemeth came off the bench at halftime in Hungary's 2-1 win over the Faroe Islands. Hungary still have a shot of reaching the Euros next year, as they are guaranteed at least a playoff for the tournament.
LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane and Colorado Rapids' Kevin Doyle remained on the bench in Ireland's surprise 1-0 win over Germany, also in Euro 2016 qualifying. The result gives Ireland at least a playoff to qualify for the Euros, if not outright qualification, pending the outcome of Sunday's game against second-place Poland.
Orlando City SC star Kaká did not play in Brazil's 2-0 loss against Chile in World Cup qualifying.
