The October international break is underway, with a handful of MLSers on duty for their country for the proceedings.
Iraq vs. Hong Kong
Vancouver Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan came off the bench and scored a penalty to wrap up a 2-0 win over Hong Kong in AFC World Cup qualifying on Thursday. Just two games in the second round of qualifying, Iraq sit in second place in their group, two points behind Iran.
Trinidad and Tobago vs. Honduras
This one featured a lot of MLS connections, with new Real Salt Lake signing Douglas Martinez making a big impact on his international debut to ice a 2-0 Concacaf Nations League win for Los Catrachos. The 22-year-old forward, signed at the end of August from Real Monarchs, entered the game in the 82nd minute and scored his first international goal eight minutes later. Houston Dynamo forward Alberth Elis drew the defense towards him with a surging run into the area before laying the ball off for Martinez, who swept it home. In addition to Martinez and Elis, the Dynamo's Maynor Figueroa also featured for Honduras, with the latter two starting and going the full 90 minutes.
T&T had its share of MLSers feature too, with Minnesota United's Kevin Molino starting and playing all 90 minutes, while Joevin Jones of the Seattle Sounders was an unused sub. Toronto FC midfielder Ryan Telfer, who is currently on loan to Canadian Premier League side York9, also started and subbed off for T&T.
Haiti vs. Costa Rica
This Nations League clash also had plenty of MLS representation, with Derrick Etienne (currently on loan to FC Cincinnati from the New York Red Bulls) coming off the bench for Haiti in a 1-1 draw. FC Cincy also had a pair of representatives on the other side with defender Kendall Waston and midfielder Allan Cruz starting for Costa Rica, LA Galaxy defender Giancarlo Gonzalez also came off the bench for Costa Rica.
Czech Republic vs. England
FC Dallas' Zdenek Odrasek made quite the impression his international debut for the Czech Republic in a Euro 2020 qualifying against England, coming in as a late substitute and promptly cashing home the game-winning goal in a shocking 2-1 victory.
Portugal vs. Luxembourg
New York City FC defender Maxime Chanot started and played all 90 minutes for Luxembourg in its Euro 2020 qualifier against Portugal, which ended in a 3-0 loss. Bernardo Silva scored the opener in the 16th minute for Portugal, while Cristiano Ronaldo struck for his 699th career goal across all competitions for club and country in the 65th. Goncalo Guedes would add the game's third and final goal just before second-half stoppage time.
Slovakia vs. Wales
RSL's Albert Rusnak started and went the distance in Slovakia's 1-1 home draw against Wales in Euro qualifying Thursday. Minnesota United'sJan Gregus was an unused substitute for Slovakia, who are in second place in their qualifying group.
North Macedonia vs. Slovenia
Houston Dynamo defender Aljaz Struna played the full 90 in a 2-1 road loss for Slovenia against North Macedonia on Thursday in Euro qualifying. The teams are level on points in their group following the result.
Russia vs. Scotland
Sporting Kansas City midfielder Johnny Russell made the roster but didn't feature for Scotland in a 4-0 blowout defeat to Russia on Thursday.
Croatia vs. Hungary
Russell's SKC teammate, Krisztian Nemeth, also did not play in Hungary's 3-0 road loss to Croatia in Euro qualifying on Thursday.
Venezuela vs. Bolivia
Venezuela rolled 4-1 over Bolivia in a friendly on Thursday. Real Salt Lake's Jefferson Savarino started for the winning side, while Rolf Feltscher (LA Galaxy) and Junior Moreno (D.C. United) came off the bench for Venezuela.
Serbia vs. Paraguay
Cristhian Paredes (Portland Timbers) started for Paraguay in a 1-0 friendly loss to Serbia on Thursday. The game was marked by former MLS player Miguel Almiron getting sent off for Paraguay, while the Red Bulls' Kaku did not play for the South Americans.
