The roster build continues for Inter Miami, and this time it’s meant acquiring a player with an MLS background.
The 2020 expansion side has traded for midfielder David Norman Jr. from the Vancouver Whitecaps, sending a conditional 2022 MLS SuperDraft pick the other way. Norman, 21, is set to occupy a spot on Miami’s supplemental roster and has joined Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC on loan for the remainder of the 2019 season.
“David is a young, creative player who has had an impressive career at the youth levels with Vancouver and the Canadian national team,” Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing him to Inter Miami ahead of our inaugural season.”
Norman signed a Homegrown contract with Vancouver in December 2017 after a season with Whitecaps FC 2. He made one first-team appearance during the 2018 Canadian Championship, though has yet to see minutes in an MLS game.
Before joining Vancouver’s second team, Norman played for one year at Oregon State University. He has extensively represented Canada on the youth level, most recently with their U-23s.
“We thank David for his time and service with the club,” Vancouver head coach Marc Dos Santos said. “We are pleased to have watched him mature into a professional and wish him nothing but the best as he continues his career.”
This acquisition brings Miami's roster to four, with the other three being young South Americans: defender Christian Makoun, midfielder Matias Pellegrini and forward Julian Carranza.
