TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
Inter Miami have acquired defender Grant Lillard from the Chicago Fire in exchange for $75,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Thursday.
Lillard, 23, joined Chicago as a Homegrown player and made 12 appearances over the last two seasons.
“Grant is a promising young defender,” Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a statement. "We are in the midst of building our team and adding key pieces to complement our supplemental roster.”
Prior to joining the Fire, Lillard spent four seasons at Indiana University. During his time with the powerhouse program he started 86 games, while adding 14 goals and nine assists. He was named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist, First Team All-America by United Soccer Coaches, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten during his senior season.
“Going back to his days as an Academy player, Grant always represented the Club with pride,” said Fire president and GM Nelson Rodriguez. “We appreciate what he has given the Club and hope that this opportunity further advances his career.”
Lillard is Inter Miami’s eighth signed player ahead of the 2020 season.
